Brent was born in Hagerstown, Maryland in 1974 and graduated from the Mercersburg Academy in 1992. After beginning his law practice at the Florida law firms of Broad and Cassel, Fowler White Boggs Banker and Wicker Smith O’Hara & Ford, he relocated to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina to start his own law firm in 2008. He is married to Stirling Halversen and has two children, a son and a daughter.

Mr. Halversen has litigated medical malpractice insurance defense, personal injury defense, general insurance defense (automobile and CGL), insurance coverage, construction litigation, health care operations and litigation, including issues regarding medical staff privileges, fraud and abuse, medical records, EMTALA and real estate litigation (title insurance defense of errors and omissions policies), commercial litigation, real estate litigation (landlord-tenant litigation), business litigation (representing developers in project specific contractual disputes), insurance coverage (representing insurance companies), state court appeals (representing lending institutions), banking and mortgage litigation (representing lending institutions).

Mr. Halversen’s current practice is almost entirely comprised of commercial and tort litigation consisting of the following areas: business litigation (partnership disputes and derivative actions, supplemental proceedings, contractual disputes, collections, mechanic liens, equitable lien and priority actions), construction litigation (plaintiff and defense), personal injury litigation, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, trust and estates litigation, real estate litigation (HOA, partition, boundary disputes, foreclosure (plaintiff and defense), and condemnation (government), administrative and regulatory law (appearances before DHEC and LLR), municipal law (corporate counsel, and provide advice for real estate transactions, ordinances, environmental, corporate and contract matters, FOIA, zoning, inter-governmental agreements for utilities).

Mr. Halversen has also previously served as the City Attorney for the City of Isle of Palms from 2021 to 2022.
