For South Carolina Public Adjusters
Public adjusters handle the claim. When a claim needs a lawyer, because of a denial, a bad faith problem or a lawsuit deadline, Halversen Law works alongside you and your client.

When to bring in a lawyer
- The insurer denies coverage, not only the amount.
- The claim shows signs of bad faith: long delays, unexplained denials, repeated document requests. See insurance bad faith.
- The insurer requests an examination under oath or a recorded statement.
- Appraisal is stalled, or the insurer refuses to pay an award. See insurance appraisal.
- The 3-year limit to sue (S.C. Code § 15-3-530(8)) is getting close. See claim deadlines in South Carolina.
Clear roles
A public adjuster is licensed under S.C. Code Title 38, Chapter 48, works for the policyholder, and is paid from recovered sums (§ 38-48-80(b)). A public adjuster cannot give legal advice or represent the client in court. When we take a case, we agree in writing with the client on who handles what, so the claim keeps moving and the client is not charged twice for the same work.
What we need from you
- The policy and declarations page.
- Your estimate, photos and the insurer’s estimate.
- All correspondence with the insurer and a timeline.
- Any proof of loss you submitted. See proof of loss.
